In Tang's view, you’d better to understand the Chinese bus development histor, so you could understand the Chinese bus industry status right now. The development history of Chinese passenger car industry can be divided into three stages.
Tang Wang believes that the first stage is the Enlightenment era, from 1960 to 1990 or so.
Due to historical reasons, this period of China's bus industry struggled a long time. In that time, domestic bus chassis is restructured from the truck chassis which the engine is at front and technology is laggard. But at this stage, China has also developed a number of dedicated bus chassis, such as, the National Institute of Technology had developed model JT6120 bus chassis. Unfortunately, these models are failed because of immature technology. However, some of the technology is still useful and become standard configuration for next generation of bus. Moreover, the design ideas have been sprouted, such as the engine rear, full load body, air suspension, double curvature of the windshield glass. Tang Wang added.
The second stage is called Age of great development, from 1990 to 2010.
At this stage, the Chinese bus industry steps into the rapid development period, and the traditional truck chassis gradually withdraw from market. After 2000, the truck chassis is no long use at all. Therefore, special bus chassis gradually mature, variety gradually improved, product performance gradually improved, the body structure gradually improved, the reliability of the product has reached the normal use of the requirements. For example, Tang Wang told us, Yutong bus had upgraded the chassis frame technology in this period, completed the frame technology transformation from the straight beam and three sections, to the full bearing body.
The third stage started from 2010, China bus industry stepped into first class level after decades of development, and gained influence in the world bus industry. In this regard, Tang said, for example, China New Energy bus had reached the world leading level and sold more than 6000 new energy bus in 2012. And some China bus company also opened the European and American markets. Such as: BYD, Kinglong.
China bus industry made a great progress and reached the world class level, but, we also need to know, we still have long way to go before we could surpass the best.
Yutong bus has been the leader in the China domestic bus market. as a technical expert, how Tang Wang thinks about the trends of bus technology? Tang says: According to the situation of China bus industry, Yutong bus focuses on three aspects.
The first one is still bus safety, including active safety and passive safety, he believes that bus safety will be more focused on active safety, passive safety is limited, and active safety prospects are broader.
The second is the bus energy-saving, refers to diesel and gas driven bus.
Tang Wang believes there is still some room for bus energy-saving. For instance, the 12meter intercity bus, we have controlled the oil consumption at 12L/100KM by Yutong engine thermal management system, green area system and vehicle network management and other technical measures.
Tang Wang pointed out that the third angle is the intelligent aspects of bus. At present, the intelligent technology of Chinese bus has developed rapidly. Some technologies have been basically synchronized with Europe, such as lane departure warning system (LDWS), body electronic stability system (ESP), etc.
